The objective of this game mode is to take the enemy intelligence and to take it back to where you intelligence is located, if you drop the intelligence you have 60 seconds in which to pick it up before it is reset and placed back in its starting position. The most played capture the flag map is probably ctf_2fort, although in certain communities especially the competitive community it is disliked due to the large percentage of stalemates.

The main reason that there are a lot of stalemates is because there is usually more than one engineer on each team which means that is is extremely hard for the opposing team to break through multiple engineers without a lot of coordination and cooperation and at least one medic which is quite rare in the average pub. Another problem is that once the opposing team has killed a group of the defenders and has broken in to the enemy base once they have captured the intelligence they have to break out of the enemies base due to the fact that the enemy will have respawned and the respawn rooms block the players escape back to their own base.

However capture the flag is a good game mode for highlander as there is only one of each class which prevents the engineer spam that is present in most pub games. Although ctf_2fort is rarely played as the community feel that the map design is poor so ctf_turbine is the more common choice. Unfortunately it seems to have fallen out of fashion recently.
