New video guide!

Postby spamfest on Thu Aug 11, 2011 11:53 am

Hey, Randomuser, considering that I don't think anyone but us two go here, love the new guide for targe jumping! And I promise I won't be such a cynical, pessimistic curmudgeon in any more posts. :)

Hehe, it's fine, I just don't think that it won't help if we go round saying that the forums are dead. :)

I think I'll try to get some people here through the steam forums, probably will have whatever thread I make locked for advertising though, the mods have gotten heavy handed lately.

Awesome, thank you for trying, I'm working on getting some guides going as well. I assume that you are an editor now?!

Did you add them to the existing pages?

I assume you mean the descriptions for the pyro and demo unlocks?

I added them to new pages, for some my computer couldn't read some symbols on the existing pages, so I made "Overview extended" pages add them on.

Nicely done! If there's a technical issue with editing the Overview pages, let me know (you may not have permissions or something). Even so, I think it would be best to keep just the basic weapons plus the original unlocks on the Overview page, and catalogue the rest on a separate "Unlockables" page, which is effectively what the Overview Extended is.

One thing to keep in mind when adding/changing content is how it appears to the user. If you mouse over the class names in the Class Guides menu, you can see, for example, "Pyro overview extended" is not consistently capitalised, is too long for a single line, and appears above "Pyro Overview" in the menu.

This ordering can be fixed by adjusting the "Order" property of the class guide subpages. Class Overview should always have an order value of 1, after which Class Unlockables would have a value of 2 to appear next in the list. This will also involve updating the order value of each sibling page to keep them the same. I went and did this for you because it's easy and your post was a week ago, but it's just something to keep in mind :).

And yes, I'm around, just being murdered by uni.

EDIT: There's also some inconsistency with naming and ordering for the existing class Unlocks pages, so there's an opportunity to consolidate all that. Or I don't know, maybe I'm the only one who gets a kick out of things being consistent :P.

Thanks! I noticed the ordering thingie but didn't know how to fix it.
