Play as the civilian. You don't need to aim, you don't need to learn much, and you don't have to think ahead.

Actually, soldier seems like a good one. High health, good weapons, aim isnt to much of an issue. Keep on it.

I didn't have a 'top class' until about 2 months ago - all I ever did was to play a class which we needed - demoman if there was a sentry nest that we were trying to deal with, pyro if we're getting dominated by spies, spy if a heavy rush is beating us etc. However 2 classes soon started gaining ground in front, and these were demoman and scout. I play either quite well, prefering scout when we already have a good damage dealing combo, and demoman if I fee like blowing shit up.
And remember, the key is to play a class that you have fun playing so Rock Some Hoovy :3, because that is so....fricking...fun to play. Sandvich FTW!

@googleplex
I like the soldier, as he can handle anything thrown at him.

but when all's said and done, my impatience, trigger-happy attitude, bad accuracy and not enough time in the day to get the timing done, I sometimes think there's no worse soldier out there.

heavy's good, but close-combat get's me killed as my impatience win's over charge-up-before-going-around-corners instinct.

demo's amazing, but I'm defenseless without back-up.

Scout's good, but I have to get kinda lucky in the aiming department.

Pyro's my best, but with all the nerf's in the Xbox version, you can only get so far (especially on the attack)

As for the other classes, I'm looking for a favorite battle class, and don't have the skill. therefore my choices are narrowed down to the above five. I used to be great with the soldier and Pyro, and have had amazing runs with the demo, but my skill has vanished to lack of recent play time.

This is your problem, not your aim at all! It may be hard to resist running after that scout, but you need to know when you are better off retreating rather than attacking, for example, as a scout I used run at everyone and try to kill them, always chasing down enemies no matter who else was nearby, anyway long story short, sit back a bit and realise among other thing that sometimes it is better to retreat rather than throwing your lie away attacking a spun up heavy. As you start to think about this your game sense will improve and you will realise when to attack and when not to.

As for choosing a "main" class I would say you need to decide what type of TF2 you are going to play, if you are happy playing in pubs or if you play on the console versions this broadens your choice, however if you are going to play competitive 6v6 in the future then it narrows down what you can reasonably play. Once you know where you want to play TF2 you can choose your class, for me I like the scout as I have played pugs with the soldier and medic (I discarded the demo as I hadn't really played him - although I am getting into him now) and I couldn't play well as the soldier - I played about 10 pugs with the soldier first and wasn't doing anything whereas when I played as the scout it just clicked for me.

Having said that, I often play as the demo and I don't limit myself to my "main" class: What I suggest you do is rule out the classes that don't interest you weapon/ability wise and then play the remaining classes more and then as you decide they aren't as interesting or don't have as much depth as you wanted rule them out. However, don't rule them out because you make bad decisions or you have bad aim with them, these will come with time.

Hope that helps

In addition to what randomuser said, I'd like to add that if you kill the guy before he kills you, he's not around to kill you anymore (unless he's a pyro or you got in a melee fight with a shiv sniper). What I do when I play is ask myself about my current situation. Sometimes I will actually go for a spun up heavy because I believe that I can land four rockets and kill him before he can get me.

So basically, ask yourself what your chances of killing the guy and escaping are. If you're a demoman with a trap and a heavy-medic just walked around the corner, stick around to blow it up. If you're a scout with 30 HP and you see a pyro, get out of there, because even if you kill him, if he touches you, you burn to cinders.

Well, that is completely normal. As an experienced voice of demoman (tugs lapels) I can tell you that is the demoman's main weakness. He's the most powerful class in the game if played well, but he needs backup. As for playing demoman defensively vs a single attacker here is my short guide:
vs scout: if you can't land pipes well stick with stickies, and try to lead him with them. Don't forget about the bottle; many fail scouts have tried to come in close for a meatshot and met a gruelling end from a crit bottle.

vs Soldier: This is one where pipes come in handy - nice n' slow is the way to go for pipes - don't shoot them all at once, and don't forget stickies - try to sticky him just as he rocket jumps so he craters :D

vs Pyro. Nades. W+M1 walks straight. Pipes fly straight. Ka-boom.

vs Demoman. Stickies are probably best, because even if you use nades, your opponent will probably use stickies so give him a taste of his owbn medicine. However, don't forget about nades, so many times in demo 1v1s have I come up against a noob-ass demoman who reloads his stickies instead of using his pipes once he's out of stickies.

vs Heavy - Pipe or Sticky Chain. Stay well back.

vs Engineer. Doubt you're gonna get attacked by one. If you do, treat as slow scout.

I have been playing a ton of demo recently with a lot of success, anyway, I found that most scouts just keep coming at you and once you know where they will come from you can place a sticky in that area and det it, you will know what I mean when you do it.

Depends if he's attacking the sentry. Personally, if my sentry can't get a shot I will bumrush him until either backup arrives, I die, or I actually kill him. (it's happened)

My preffered strategy as demo.

1. sticky carpet.
2. spam from safe place at enemies.

of course it only works on defense, I suck solo.

I think my most used classes are demo, soldier, and Pyro, but I'm not to good at any of them.

bottle is amazing versus noob spies :D .

by impatience, I mean: as heavy, I walk around corners not spun up; as soldier, I spam.

By the way, today, tragedy struck!

Okay, I was over at my friend's house playing Tf2 on the Xbox (The only version I own) when my friend's retarded brother pulls on the ethernet cable and the Xbox falls over! Suddenly, the screen goes blank and the Xbox starts making bad grating noises! My friends pulls out the disc, and there's a deep, circular scratch running the entire way around the disc...

I put it back in the Xbox. It didn't work...

WHY, GOD WHY?!?!?!!!!

It's okay though, my friend's mom is buying a new one :D .

okay, back on track.

the three leading classes in the "Axel's favorite class" tournament are the Demo, Soldier, and Pyro

Demo: I don't use nades. If I'm going to learn to predict in my aiming, the soldier just there better choice. so i use the stickies, either laying traps in choke points, as sticky carpets, under a distracted enemy, or leading an enemy in to them. if I hem an enemy into a room or enclosed area, I usually spam nades in/at them. This allows me to kill an enemy before they have a chance to retaliate, with the first blow. However, with this play style, I must cover all possible routes that allow the enemy to charge me, as I not a proficient nader. This is sometimes impossible.

Soldier: when I need things done that a single class can't handle, I use the soldier. The soldier combines the demoman's high damage, splash damage, and long range suppressive abilities, with the pyro's dangerous close combat abilities and versatility. Charging Pyro? no prob. sentry? said and done. However, my rocket prediction is abysmal anything beyond 12 ft. This would be manageable if he didn't have four rockets in a clip and dead retarded reloading speed. This means if your first two rockets don't land, your screwed. This also makes me the world's worst soldier. I once ambushed an engie who had no sentry or teammates. I lost. That doesn't mean getting good is impossible, as occasionally I will gain proficient skill. This took a lot of time though. a lot of time.

Pyro: The Pyro is often been my favorite class, as his normal health, normal speed, and his shotty mean he is the most balanced class in the game. coupled with the ability to not aim, flame retardant suit, and high damage capabilities creates an easy used, versatile fighter, and as such has been my best and favorite class more than a few times. However, his close-combat weapons means the Pyro must put his neck on the line in order to do decent damage. Lacking a explosive weapon, this makes attacking a group bigger than two people or a sentry is a suicide mission. It is possible to get enough skill to survive these suicide missions, but there's only so much a Pyro can do. This means for all of the Pyro's versatility and skills, in half of the million most likely combat situations, He can't do lick shit.

so, what should I do fellow forumers?

@Adam
Thanks, once I get enough time I'll start on that thread.
